ISLAMABAD: Islamabad High Court (IHC) has sought a reply within two weeks from Higher Education Commission (HEC) chairman, Ministry of CADD, Federal Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education chairman and others in a case challenging teaching from a sociology book which contains defamatory material against the Baloch.
Justice Athar Minallah took up the case for hearing on Thursday. Yasir Mehmood, counsel for petitioner Jahangir Aslam Baloch, took the plea that attempt have been made to declare Baloch nation uncivilised in the sociology book which is being taught at intermediate and bachelor’s level. “It has been attempted to prove the Baloch as savages who engage in clashes and bloodshed,” the petitioner’s counsel said, requesting the court to issue orders to remove the book from the syllabus and impose a ban on its purchase and sale. “A ban should be imposed on the sale and purchase of the book unless the controversial material is erased from it,” he said. The court, while issuing notice to the respondents, sought replies within two weeks.
