MANSEHRA: District Livestock Officer Dr Rafique Mughal Monday said that precautionary measures were being taken to avert any possible outbreak of Congo virus in the district.
“We are holding awareness sessions and fumigating ever nook and corner of the district to curb any possible outbreak of Congo fever,” he said. “We have been visiting farmers, butchers and slaughter houses’ workers in Mansehra, Shinkiari, Balakot, Pulrah and Oghi to create awareness among them,” said Dr Rafique.
He said that no case of Congo virus had been reported in the district so far, adding that the campaign would continue until Eidul Azha.
The official said anti-ticks sprays were also being carried out at animal houses across the district.
“Local farmers and butchers have been asked to cooperate with the Livestock Department in curbing the any possible outbreak of Congo virus in the district and whenever called to attend awareness sessions they come and take interest in it,” Dr Rafique added.
He said that owing to little fear in other parts of the country, particularly in Sindh, his department was having a strict vigil and a daily report was being shared with the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Livestock Department and Mansehra deputy commissioner.
As the migration of nomads with goats and sheep is going to start in September, he asked the people to adopt precautionary measures while taking care of or slaughtering animals on Eidul Azha.
