LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Vice-Chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi claimed on Saturday that ‘the distance between the military and the government is not of ordinary nature’, a local news channel reported.
In a statement, Qureshi dubbed the relations between the civil and military leadership ‘not different than those in 1999’. Referring to the sit-in called by PTI Chairman Imran Khan, Qureshi said that the people needed to ensure their participation in light of the troubled times so that they could put the country on the right track.
The statement has come in over a week after a report published in local English daily that claimed rising tensions between the government and the army. Following the report, the journalist was barred from leaving the country before the Interior Ministry lifted the ban on him around three days later.
Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan stated in a press conference earlier this week that a probe was underway and would be completed within three to four days. He said that a committee had formed and was investigating the issue. However, both the leaderships denied the story and dubbed it ‘baseless’.
